The two-storey security building which houses offices, welfare facilities and a visitor pass office, forms the gateway to Hinkley Point C. This was also designed and built to include a security canopy with access and egress turnstiles, search facilities and drug and alcohol testing suite. To benefit the overall cost and programme, we interrogated the original design and identified areas where value engineering could be undertaken.
Reception Building and Turnstile Canopy
We interrogated the original design to identify areas where value engineering could be undertaken, in order to benefit the overall cost and programme, providing an efficient access and egress solution for the workforce, which works in tandem with the project security requirements.
The build site was handed over to our team as a surfaced area, below which was a maze of live services. Our first process was to understand the location and depth of all of the buried services and plan a route to install foundations, drainage and ducting to facilitate the building.
Following substructure works, the canopy building was installed utilising a steel framed cladding concept with tarmac hard surfacing and associated mechanical and electrical works. The reception building was a modular concept with internal fit out; watertight box fitted with internal walls, floor coverings, internal joinery and decor, together with mechanical and electrical works.
